What Are Pregabalin and Gabapentin?
Both Pregabalin and Gabapentin belong to a class of drugs known as gabapentinoids. Despite being structurally related to the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), they do not act directly on GABA receptors. Instead, they bind to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters and calms nerve activity.
